Don The Beachcomber Mai Tai Recipe
Although not the original Mai Tai, and most likely a version of the traditional tiki cocktail beverage that you have never tasted, Don the Beachcomber's Mai Tai deserves inclusion in the Mai Tai Hall of Fame ... right behind Trader Vic's!

- 1 1/2 oz Myer's Plantation Rum (or Appleton)
- 1 oz Cuban Rum
- 1/2 oz Cointreau
- 1/4 oz Falernum (sweet syrup)
- 1 oz Grapefruit Juice
- 3/4 oz lime juice
- 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
- 1 dash Pernod
- 1 cup cracked ice
Combine rum, Cointreau, Falernum, grapefruit juice, lime juice, bitters,pernod, and cracked ice into a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously (and we mean VIGOROUSLY, it truly makes the difference between a good Mai Tai and a great Mai Tai). Strain into an old fashioned glass over shaved ice and garnish with a sprig of mint.
