Smoothie King was founded in 1973 by Steve Kuhnau, as a side business in his health food store. Juice King’s Mission Statement says it all, “To relentlessly influence and help more & more people achieve a healthier lifestyle.” According to its website, in 1989, Smoothie King was named the #1 smoothie franchise by Entrepreneur Magazine. Jamba Juice has now usurped Smoothie King’s dominance boasting approximately 800 retail locations compared to smoothie King’s 700. However, Smoothie King is significantly more popular in Asia with its new CEO, Wan Kim, pushing to dominate the rapidly growing region. Although founded as a small privately owned business, Smoothie King is now a corporate power house and recently secured $58 million in capital earmarked for growth from institutional investors.
The following smoothie recipes are either exactly the same as, or a close approximation of, the actual Smoothie King recipes used at their retail locations. For your convenience, we have also included a list of enhancers and supplements that mirror Smoothie King’s add-ons.
Best Smoothie King Recipes
Angel Food Smoothie, an original Smoothie King Recipe, is absolutely one of the best tasting smoothies we have ever tried. Sweet, luscious, and nostalgic for a time when the smell of freshly baked angel food cakes would permeate the house during grandma’s summer visit.
